What is an algorithm? [Full subscriber]

For many, an algorithm implies a set of rules based objectively on empirical evidence or data. It also suggests a system that is highly complex1. However, “complexity” is a relative word for a process seen from the outside. The algorithm is in itself the opposite of complex. A strict set of commands is processed by a computer, for example. One at a time.
