Western States acquires couple of Brazilian companies operating in the sugar industry

The Western States Machine Company, manufacturer of centrifugals for the sugar industry, recently announced they have acquired a controlling share of BIG Tecnologia and Colmena, leading manufacturers supporting the Brazilian sugar industry.

The acquisition comes against a backdrop of heavily indebted Brazilian sugar industry that is beginning to recover. In the recent past, country’s major sugar equipment manufacturer Dedini, filed for bankruptcy.

BIG Tecnologia and Colmena, both Brazilian companies founded in 2003, are located in Piracicaba, São Paulo Brazil, providing service and support to the sugar and ethanol industries.

Western States custom designs and manufactures batch and continuous centrifugals for the global marketplace. Established since 1917, Western States has been instrumental in developing and innovating superior centrifuges and corresponding technologies while keeping their global client base its first and foremost priority.

Robert Sinnard, President of Western States stated that as the company aims to expand market presence globally, the acquisition of “BIG Tecnologia’s [and its] significant engineering and production capability adds increased depth and a local market presence to Western States’ suite of products.”
