Vietnam’s sugar output set to be surplus in 2012-13 [Registered]

For the first time in many years, Vietnam has produced sufficient sugar for domestic demand, said Doan Xuan Hoa, deputy head of Agro-forestry Processing and Salt Industry Department under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), reports Vietnam News. Expansion in acreage, productivity and output for the 2011-2012 crop have contributed to the ongoing expansion in sugar production in the country. Cane acreage this year has been 284,000 hectares. With average crop yields of 61.7 t/ha, cane production has reached 17.5 million tonnes. As of now, all 39 sugar factories across Vietnam have processed 14.5 million tonnes of sugarcane,…
