USDA unveils 60 products with new bio-based label [Registered]

Five dozen products, including hand soaps and engine oils, will soon be sold in US with a new “BioPreferred” label to show they contain significant portion of biobased ingredients, the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced recently. Composition of “BioPreferred” labelled products are independently certified to meet USDA standards. Since the announcement of the voluntary labelling programme in January ’11, 100 companies have submitted applications for about 400 products. Companies recognized include recognized several companies for their efforts, including Seventh Generation, DuPont Corp., Green Earth Technologies and NatureWorks.
