USA – Sugar program under threat from bipartisan bill [Registered]

A bipartisan group of lawmakers on 7th November introduced legislation in the House and Senate that would overhaul the U.S. sugar program. The Republican representative Virginia Foxx plusDemocrats Earl Blumenauer and Danny Davis of Illinois, along with senators Pat Toomey and Jeanne Shaheen are behind the Sugar Policy Modernization Act, which supporters hope will eventually be included in the 2018 farm bill to strip away what they contend are costly protections for America’s sugar cane and beet farmers.
