USA – Commercial scale cellulosic ethanol production in sight [Registered]
Four commercial-scale cellulosic ethanol plants in USA will begin producing the biofuel this year, including three expected to start as early as the end of May or June. At a recently held event by Fuels America in Washington, D.C., representatives from DuPont, Abengoa Bioenergy, POET-DSM and Quad County Corn Processors (QCCP), were quite sanguine about their progress. But, they also cautioned that if the EPA’s proposal to reduce the volume of biofuels required in the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) is allowed to stand, the future of cellulosic ethanol will be at risk.
