USA – Commercial scale cellulosic ethanol plant comes online [Registered]

The United States’ first commercial-scale cellulosic ethanol plant opened on 3rd September and could soon be producing 76 million litres of fuel a year from corn crop residues. Known as Project Liberty, the biorefinery in Emmetsburg, Iowa, is a joint venture between Poet and DSM and has been developed after the project received a U$105mln loan guarantee from the US Department of Energy (DoE) in 2011.
