USA – Cane crop in Louisiana takes the biggest hit following Hurricane Isaac [Registered]

Following in the wake of Hurricane Isaac which swept through Louisiana during late August, of all the crops in the state, cane crop has shouldered the greatest loss. From the estimated losses of U$ 100 million for all crops including cotton, citrus, sweet potatoes and pecans, cane yield losses are estimated to be $60 million, according to the LSU (Louisiana State University) AgCenter. The LSU AgCenter notes that 379,246 of 420,000 acres of cane crop have been adversely impacted by the hurricane – that is over 90%.
