UK – Former Foreign Secretary lobbied to change rules governing sugar regimes in Ukraine and EU [Registered]
Mr Straw flew to Kiev to lobby Mykola Azarov, the then prime minister, to reinstate tolling. He had pointed out to the Prime Minister that “there was no evidence” for the allegations sugar was smuggled on the pretext of refining. He stressed that the repeal of the law to prevent the beet sugar factory from tolling altogether was imperative as the factory was “completely uneconomic” to run under the circumstances.… Login to continue
