The press method for cane analysis [Registered]

In 1968 Hoarau discussed the press method for determining fibre, pol and Brix in cane delivered by growers. This method, in conjunction with core sampling of cane from vehicles, was then reviewed by Hugot (1974), Brokensha et al. (1976), Sturion (1977), Saranin (1986) and Berding (2010). A representative sample of cane is treated in a laboratory shredder. A 1kg subsample is transferred to the press and pressed for a specific time at a specific pressure.
