Thailand – Fuel ethanol use rises by 90% [Registered]

Fuel ethanol use in Thailand increased 90% year on year to 2.53 million litres/day over January-September, as the growth continues to surpass expectations, according to the country’s Department of Alternative Energy and Efficiency. Ethanol-based fuels currently account for 9% of the country’s transport sector consumption, it said. The growth rate has given the government confidence that its policy target of 9 million litres/day by 2021 is achievable. The government adopted a revised Alternative Energy Plan (2012-2021) that also included a 5.97 million litres/day target for biodiesel following the failure of a previous plan released in 2008 to reach biofuel targets.…
