Sugar consumption in El Salvador dropped by 7% during the pandemic lockdown. The total closure ordered by President Nayib Bukele contributed to sugar industry losses of US$ 12 million, according to Julio Arroyo, executive director of the Sugar Association of El Salvador.

Norwegian shoppers cross into Sweden for cheaper sugar-based products [Full subscriber]

Recent press reports from Norway are replete with mention of a significant drop in per capita sugar consumption, driven largely by hefty taxes. But this masks the actual consumption as Norwegians have been driving across to Sweden to buy confectionery and soda which are much cheaper as they are not taxed.
