Novel slow release urea increases crop yield by 20% [Full subscriber]

There have been many attempts to develop novel slow-release fertilizers to reduce nitrogen loss (through emission and leaching) and improve crop production. Researchers at the Hefei Institutes of Physical Science have appeared to have made a significant breakthrough in developing a novel matrix-based slow-release urea (MSU) to improve nitrogen use efficiency in rice production.

Novel fertilizer tablets created for slow release of plant nutrients [Registered]

Researchers at the Siberian Federal University and Krasnoyarsk scientific centre (KSC) of SB RAS have developed a ‘smart fertiliser’ tablet by combining a traditional fertiliser with a biodegradable polymer. The bio-compatible materials break down in soil to provide a controlled release of nitrogen or other fertiliser
