Both the Russian Sugar Producers Union (Soyuzrossakhar) and the Russian statistical office (Rosstat) forecast a reduced sugar output than the previous year of 6.62 mln tonnes. Soyuzrossakhar forecasts an output of 6 mln tonnes while Rosstat puts it at between 5.5 mln and 6.3 mln tonnes, according to local press reports.
Sugar beet acreage for the 2018/19 season is 3.9% lower than the previous year at 1.13 million hectares due to low sugar prices, according to local press reports.
Prodimex, the largest Russian sugar producer, produced a record 1.46 million tonnes of sugar during the -2017/18 campaign from 10.6 million tonnes of sugar beet, according to the Deputy Director of the company Vadim Yeryzhensky.
With 2017/18 sugar campaign over in Russia and factories completed the processing beet, the sugar output is put at around 6.4 million tonnes, according to Andrei Bodin, the head of the Union of Sugar Producers of Russia (Soyuzrossahar).
