Praj Industries and the biotech start-up Lygos have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to co-develop Lygos’s proprietary yeast for the production of lactic acid.

Approximately 50% of the carbon used in the chemistry of steelmaking leaves the process as carbon monoxide. Today, this waste gas stream is either flared or used to heat and power the steel mill. LanzaTech’s proprietary gas fermentation process uses bioengineered microbes to capture and reuse carbon rich waste gases produced during industrial processes such as steel manufacturing, and transforming it into commodity fuel and chemical products.
