Germany considering phasing out biofuels by 2030 [Full subscriber]

The war in Ukraine has reignited the “food vs fuel” argument surrounding crop-based biofuels, with Germany’s environment ministry, led by its minister Steffi Lemke working on a proposal to phase out the use of biofuels produced from food and feed crops by 2030.

USA – Bipartisan group seeking change to existing sugar program [Full subscriber]

A bipartisan group of 40 representatives and senators on Sept. 26 introduced the “Fair Sugar Policy Act of 2019” into the House (H.R. 4521) and the Senate (S.2568) seeking to amend the existing US sugar program.

Philippines – Deregulation of sugar imports likely within a year [Full subscriber]

The government is seeking to liberalize the importation of sugar to push down the price of the commodity the country’s Budget Secretary, Benjamin Diokno announced recently, according to local press reports.
