Praj Industries and the biotech start-up Lygos have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to co-develop Lygos’s proprietary yeast for the production of lactic acid.
The US-based biotech start-up, Lygos, producer of specialty chemicals, recently announced three innovation research grants totalling US$750,000 of non-equity funding to support advanced research and development. These funds have been awarded through separate grants from the US Department of Energy, USDA and the National Science Foundation.

The biotech start-up Lygos recently announced that it has raised US$13 million in Series A funding led by OS Fund and IA Ventures, with participation from First Round Capital, Y Combinator’s Continuity Fund, Fifty Years, Vast Ventures and various angel investors to produce biobased malonic acid.
The biotech start-up Lygos Inc. and chemical manufacturer Sirrus Inc. recently announced that Sirrus has successfully synthesized its Chemilian 1,1 di-substituted alkenes using Lygos’ bio-derived diethyl malonate (bio-DEM). This marks the first known synthesis and purification of this breakthrough class of monomers using biobased malonate esters at laboratory scale.
