The French startup Qairos Energies says it plans to build a plant in Mareil-en-Champagne near Le Mans in northwestern France that will gasify hemp biomass into valuable products.

Researchers at VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland Ltd have developed a new gasification-based technique to turn lignocellulosic feedstock, in particular, forest industry residues, into transport fuels and chemicals.

VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland Ltd has developed a method of manufacturing BTX chemicals by combining the gasification of lignocellulosic biomass, the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis and aromatisation. Over 85% of the separated benzene exceeded 90% purity and around 50% of the separated toluene was over 70% purity.
