Syngenta and Devgen to partner the development of novel insecticide [Registered]

Syngenta and Devgen are partnering to jointly develop sprayable product for the control of insect pests based on interference (RNAi) technology. Under a six-year global license and research agreement Syngenta will develop and commercialize sprayable RNAi-based crop protection products originating from Devgen. Devgen will receive upfront technology access payment of EUR 22m and EUR 4.8m per year to fund research. RNAi involves the use of short double-stranded RNA molecules that can silence the expression of targeted genes in a specific insect. Therefore by selectively targeting a specific gene mechanism in certain insect species, non-harmful or beneficial insects are spared.…
