Sugarcane’s cooling effect on climate [Registered]

In Brazil, cane production expansion is likely to continue apace in response to high sugar prices and increasing demand for cane- based ethanol from the automobile sector. While the benefits of reducing carbon dioxide emissions from the use of biofuels are well known, that of the beneficial impact of cane itself on local climate, reported recently by US scientists, will come as a boon to the industry.
