Sugar production in US forecast to increase by 3.0% in 2011/12 [Registered]
The Department of Agriculture forecasts that US sugar production is likely to increase by 3.0% to 8.19 million short tons, raw value, in the upcoming 2011/12 (Oct/Sep) season from 7.95 million in 2010/11 in its first official forecast for the upcoming crop. Beet sugar production is seen unchanged on the year at 4.8 million tonnes, while cane sugar production is expected to increase to 3.39 million tons from 3.15 million with the rebound in Florida where the 2010/11 crop was damaged by a hard freeze.
