Sugar output in Germany forecast to decline by 3.1% in 2012/13 [Registered]

Beet sugar production for the 2012/13 campaign in Germany is forecast to decline by 3.1 percent due to combination of both decline in beet yields and acreage, according to the industry group Wirtschaftliche Vereinigung Zucker, reports Bloomberg. Beet-sugar output is estimated to slip to 4.51 million tonnes this year from 4.65 million tonnes in the 2011-12. Germany is the European Union’s second-largest sugar-beet grower behind France. Crop yields are estimated at 70.1 tons of beets per hectare (2.47 acres), down from 74.6 tons in 2011-12. Beet acreage slipped to 393,667 hectares, down from 396,505 hectares, last year, noted WVZ.
