South Africa’s sugar output falls 12.4% in 2010/11 [Registered]

South Africa’s sugar output fell 12.4% in 2010/11 to 1.909 million tonnes, the South African Sugar Association (SASA) said. A drought in the rain-fed cane growing area of Kwazulu Natal Province decreased output and caused production to touch a 15-year low, down from the previous season’s 2.178 million. The sugarcane crush declined to 16.016 million tonnes from 18.655 million a year ago. The latest numbers were even slightly below the 1.911 million tonnes projected at the beginning of March.…
