Siemens partners with LanzaTech to produce biofuels from waste steel mill gases [Registered]

Siemens is partnering with LanzaTech to develop latter’s technology that convert waste industrial gases into fuel. In a joint statement issued recently Siemens’s Metals Technologies unit will collaborate with LanzaTech for 10 years to commercialize and market waste gas to fuel systems for the steel industry. To produce one metric ton of steel, an average of 1.8 metric tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) is emitted. Up to now, these gases have been flared or used to create process heat and electrical energy within the plant.
