Russia on course for over 5 million tonnes sugar [Registered]

A record of 4.56 million tonnes of beet sugar was produced over the period August to 26 December ’11, according to the Russian Sugar Producers’ Union in late December. Up to 5.2 million tonnes sugar is the latest forecast for the 2011/12 campaign. What has been of particular concern lately has been the arrival of warm weather from the Atlantic Ocean precipitating freeze-thaw cycle resulting in beet damage.
