Russia – Bad weather and reduced acreage lowers 2013/14 sugar output [Registered]
Recent rainfall is adversely impacting beet harvest and supply to factories according to the Institute for Agricultural Market Studies (IKAR), reports Reuters. By 23 September, some 9.7 million tonnes of beet was harvested. This is 24% less than last year (12.8 million tonnes) stated IKAR its website. Rainfall is likely to reduce beet sugar content too. According to the national association of sugar producers Soyuzrossakhar, 8.4 million tonnes of beet were harvested by 24 September compared with 11.38 million tonnes a year ago, and processed 7.3 million tonnes compared with 9.6 million tonnes a year ago, reported Dowjones.
