Roadmap points towards profitably exploiting lignin generated during the production of cellulosic biofuels [Registered]

In the production of cellulosic biofuels, lignin is a by-product which has not been profitably exploited as a valuable chemical when purified. A new review article in the journal Science points the way toward a future where lignin is transformed from a waste product into valuable materials such as low-cost carbon fiber for cars or biobased plastics.
