Retrofitting of ethanol plants for butanol production on the rise in USA [Registered]

As subsidies in US for ethanol continue to disappear, retrofitting of ethanol plants to produce butanol says butanol technology provider Butamax, the joint venture between BP and DuPont Chemical. Compared with ethanol, butanol is a superior fuel with superior financial incentives. Butamax CEO Paul Beckwith speaking to Engineering News Record says his company already has signed up eight ethanol plants-representing 900 million gallons (4.09 billion litres) per year of production capacity-to retrofit for butanol production.
