Quality biobased plastic production technology advanced by Finnish researchers [Registered]

A new technology developed in Finland advances the production of bioplastic of superior quality that is likely to expand its use in packaging. The VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland has developed a technique that enables the production of the PGA monomer glycolic acid from sugar more efficiently than before. Biobased PGA plastic is claimed to have excellent barrier properties. Adding PGA into the structure of traditional plastic packaging significantly improves its quality.
