Proterro’s sugar-making process in photobioreactors inching towards industrial scale [Registered]

The US start-up Proterro recently reported that four months of continuous operation at the pilot plant in Orlando has shown that its patented sugar-making process in photobioreactors is scalable. The company provided an update on its development of a clean sugar feedstock for production of biofuels and biobased chemicals. While sugar production has begun at low levels, it has been controllable, meaning that it can be increased as predicted. Proterro’s photobioreactor, which cultivates Proterro’s patented, sugar-producing cyanobacteria, is the other key part of the company’s sugar-making process.
