Philippines sugar industry needs to modernize to compete in post 2015 Asean Economic Community [Registered]

In the wake of the launch of the Asean Economic Community (AEC) in 2015 which will see the reduction of tariffs across goods, Philippines Trade Secretary Gregory L. Domingo has raised concern about the competitiveness of the country’s sugar industry. Speaking to the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Domingo admitted that more investments in the sugar industry will have to be made to effectively compete against sugar producing countries in the block.
