Patent ruling welcomed by Gevo and Butamax [Registered]

In the ongoing dispute between Gevo and Butamax regarding alleged infringement of two isobutanol-related patents, both parties recently welcomed a ruling by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The USTPO ruled against re-examining Butamax’s first patent ‘188, but has granted the re-examination of its second patent ‘889. By law, each claim of a patent remains valid and enforceable during the review process. Not surprisingly, both parties offered a differing spin on the ruling.
