Use of optical sensor for mill power measurement in sugar factories [Full subscriber]

Measurement of power consumption of mills in a sugar factory is important for energy budgeting. Electrical power consumed in a mill is measurable. However, the actual power delivered to a mill cannot be easily measured. Several researchers have tried to measure the twist in the tail-bar which couples the drive with a mill. Combining the twist with rotational speed (rpm), the power delivered to the load is estimated. Strain gauges and linear displacement transducers have been employed for such twist measurements.
