Two roll mill developments* [Full subscriber]

Abstract The Bundaberg High Extraction Mill (BHEM) is a two roll crushing mill in which the flows of bagasse and extracted juice are co-current in a vertical down geometry. The first commercial installation of a BHEM was at Bundaberg Sugar’s Bingera mill in 1997. Since then, the original Bingera BHEM has been replaced with a bigger unit and a further 12 units have been installed. As factories have increased their capacity, the BHEM concept has been further developed by retro-fitting pre-extraction rolls (PER) to the mills as a means of increasing their effective capacity.
