Towards the sugarcane genome sequence and an understanding of polyploidy [Full subscriber]

Abstract Sugarcane’s economic importance is already well established and an appreciation within the research community of its value as a system to aid understanding the complexities of polyploidy is also growing. Over the past decade, sugarcane studies in Australia have identified many markers associated with agronomically important traits. This has been accomplished through the development of genetic maps and large-scale quantitative trait loci (QTL) studies, working towards identifying which genes or regulatory elements underlie these QTL.
