Sugar clarification by cheap and novel technology [Full subscriber]

This study elicited an alternative and economical process to those currently employed for the removal of unwanted color, turbidity and suspended solids in any type of sugar manufacture. Sawdust and orange peels were initially treated with chemicals and subsequently used to remove colour from raw sugar syrup. The adsorption capacity of adsorbents is determined by total surface area and internal pore structure as well as the presence of functional groups on the surface.
