Studies on association between economic attributes and development of selection indices in intervarietal hybrid derivatives of sugarcane (Saccharum l.)* [Full subscriber]

Abstract The experiment was conducted with 28 varieties of sugarcane derived through interspecific crosses between Saccharum officinarum L., S. spontaneum L., and S. sinense L. The objective was to estimate phenotypic and genotypic variability, heritability, genetic advance and the relative contribution of various components towards final cane and sugar yield through path coefficient analysis. The relative efficiency of index selection for achieving higher returns compared to selection for cane and sugar yields alone was also studied.
