Scale up studies for the simultaneous removal of colorants and protein from a refinery sugar liquor using powdered activated carbon – a pilot plant study [Full subscriber]

Abstract Pilot plant studies were carried out to scale up laboratory results reporting on the ability of powdered activated carbon (PAC) in removing multiple impurities from sugarcane refinery streams. Clarified refined liquor, at 75 or 80°C, was spiked with either 0.5 or 1 ppm of high temperature stable α-amylase and treated with powdered activated carbon (PAC) at doses of 250, 500, or 750 ppm on a Brix basis.
