Operational experience with the new generation of low temperature belt dryers for sugar beet pulp [Full subscriber]

Abstract More than 30 years after the first installations of low temperature belt dryers (LTD), there is a renewed interest in the technology. . During the campaign in 2012/13 a 580m2 LTD was installed at the Südzucker plant in Plattling. With a capacity of 30t/h water evaporation, utilizing waste heat from the sugar factory, the LTD was effective in pre-drying beet pulp. Besides the natural gas savings it allows to run the drum dryers with lower drum inlet temperature which reduces significantly the emissions.
