Abstract Molasses desugarization (MDS) is an example of a large-scale chromatographic separation that has been in use in the United States beet sugar industry for almost 40 years. The process has proven commercially viable under current market conditions, energy and environmental cost. As a result, most US sugar beet companies have been operating one or more MDS installations.
