Managing Cercospora leaf spot of sugar beet – The logic model in practice [Full subscriber]

The sugar beet industry is responsible for over $3 billion of total economic activity in Minnesota and North Dakota. Sugar beet growers lost $75 M in 1998 because of the devastating disease, Cercospora leaf spot. Extension educators used the logic model to plan, develop, conduct, and evaluate a research and extension program to manage this disease. Collaborative research, funded by growers, was conducted to determine how best to manage Cercospora leaf spot with fungicides. Research results were disseminated to growers, educators and advisors of growers.
