Abstract Near Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS) has held the promise of being used as an alternative method for composite Mixed Juice (MJ) analysis at the Sugar Milling Research Institute NPC (SMRI) for a protracted length of time. The lengthy adoption uptake has been the result of technology issues and in part due to the importance of ensuring that the technology provides results equivalent to the conventional methods as a consequence of their use in the cane payment system.
