Herbicide selection and calibration tables developed to assist emerging farmers in South Africa † [Full subscriber]

Modern sugarcane cultivars are complex hybrids resulting from crosses among several Saccharum species and are bred to suit different growing conditions. Traditional Emerging farmers have a lack of knowledge when selecting appropriate herbicides and their required application rates. To assist this group, field days are proposed where Extension Officers assist growers to calibrate knapsacks and select herbicides. A series of user-friendly tables has been developed to assist Extension Officers by simplifying the SASRI Herbicide Guide and calibration calculations.
