Early shoot borer (Chilo infuscatellus Snellen) incidence in sugarcane – Role of weather in a warm sub-humid climate of India [Full subscriber]

Incidence of early shoot borer is identified as one of the production constraints in sugarcane in north coastal zone of Andhra Pradesh. This study assessed the impact of weather parameters on incidence of infestation by the pest on sugarcane. Findings suggested that relatively warmer (minimum temperature > 23.8ºC) and dry nights (RH < 77%) favoured the incidence, rainfall events exceeding 50 mm/day controlled the pest during the early stages of crop growth. A firm conclusion, however, could not be drawn to predict the incidence of ESB based on weather parameters.…
