Dual benefits of using hop acid extract in an ethanol plants [Full subscriber]

Abstract Biomethanation involves anaerobic degradation of organic material by microbes generating biogas comprising a mixture of methane and carbon dioxide. The anaerobic digestion that occurs naturally in swamps, lakes and intestines of ruminant animals is a multistep process involving hydrolysis, acidogenesis, acetogenesis and methanogenesis. With reference to a case study at a forty five million liter North American ethanol plant, this paper describes methods used to control microbial contamination during ethanol production and their impact on vinasse quality discharged into a bio-digester that was subsequently sourced for biogas production.
