Development of laboratory near infrared (NIR) spectroscopy systems for sugar mill and refinery applications [Full subscriber]

Near infrared (NIR) methods offer many advantages over traditional chemical measurement techniques including lower costs, ease of analysis, reduced technical risk and higher throughput. This paper describes the development of NIR calibrations for a wide variety of sugar mill, refinery and distillery products and their application on simple laboratory instruments which can be located and operated within factory laboratories. Calibrations have been developed by conducting exhaustive sampling and analysis programs across multiple crushing seasons and sampling sites.
