Design and implementation of a starting system for a sugarcane shredder* [Full subscriber]

Abstract         The goal of the implemented shredder drive starting system is to overcome the large inertias of the machine (shredder) at the start of its operation, and to decrease the time of the starting current in the three-phase induction motor.  The turbine-gearbox drive assembly, for starting the shredder, was sized according to the requirements of the shredder and the needs of the electricity grid using high-pressure steam (4482 KPa).  To complete the start-up system, a spiral-jaw high-torque coupler with positive contact was designed and manufactured to fit the minimum operating space.  This clutch coupling was evaluated by flexible linear and…
