Characterisation of molasses for bio-refinery applications [Full subscriber]

Abstract Molasses is widely used as an inexpensive source of sugar in bio-refineries to produce a range of products. The chemical and physical properties of molasses can vary considerably depending on the origin of the molasses as well as the production process. These variations are of importance to the bioprocessing industries, which use molasses as a feedstock. Despite this, few authors have examined characteristics relevant to industrial processing, with most of the work focusing on animal feed.
