Cane you hear the beet? How the 2017 EU Sugar Reform Affects Sub-Saharan Africa [Full subscriber]

Abstract The upcoming EU sugar policy reform in 2017 is expected to have quite an impact on the bloc’s internal market—with more volatility in production and prices, increased competition among producers and higher volumes of sugar trade within the EU. However, external markets will also be affected as the need for imports decreases due to higher self-sufficiency, while EU export volumes are expected to rise due to the disappearance of the export limit.
