Brazil’s ethanol sector struggling amidst inclement policy and weather [Full subscriber]

Brazilian sugar and ethanol sectors are going through difficult phase. There has been significant rationalization in the industry. Following the credit crunch in 2008, investment in the industry has given way to closures of factories as access to capital has become difficult and government policies have not entirely been conducive, even though it has funded the sector through preferential loans and direct subsidies.
